History of DJ Brother Don

People ask me, Are you Catholic, and I tell them no,  I explain to them how I got to be know as "The Brother"

Back in 1986, when 80's Rock was the hot music of the time, I ventured into "The Connection" in Gloversville, NY.  The Connection was the place to go.  This Club was so hot, that people traveled from Syracuse, and Albany to see live Rock and Roll bands.  One of the hot bands of the time was a band known as KGB.  I know, I know, KGB, Russian Secret Service,  I was curious also, but from what I have heard, the name came from 2 of the original members of the band, Mark Kraft, and Dave Gevanoni.  (The Kraft, Gevenoni Band), AKA  KGB.,  KGB was playing the hottest danceable music at the time.  Songs from Talking Heads, Led Zeppelin, Boston, Van Halen, and many more.  They packed The connection 4 nights a week, Yes, 4 nights a week, the same band, you don't see that anymore around here.  Any how, I was so impressed with the performance of KGB that I approached the band about video taping them.  They gave me permission as long as I gave them a copy of the video tape, I agreed.

The KGB Production

I rented 2 VHS video cameras from a local video store, and not these tiny cameras of today, these are the heavy types you carry on your shoulder.  I place one in the balcony of The Connection, and one on stage.  I built a crude switch box, and had 3 TV monitors to perform camera switching.  I purchased cheap wired headsets from Radio Shack and gave one each to the camera guys. I was even able to patch the audio directly into the sound board.   I was the producer.  I told you, I was impressed with KGB.  The show began and so did the production.  The production was pretty good, except that when we switched camera views, it caused the tape to jump.  (I didn't know I needed a pulse sync generator to do clear camera switches).

At the time, the band consisted of Mark Kraft, Lead Vocals, Charlie Trahan, Lead Guitar and Vocals, Joe Hudyncia, Bass Guitar, Phil Skyler, Keyboards, Guitar, and vocals. and Chris DeLorme, Drums and Vocals.  In the middle of the second set, Mark Kraft announced that "The Brothers are here tonight, The Brothers are here, We have one up on stage here with a camera and another Technological Genius up in the Balcony,  They are video taping our show tonight."  The reason he referred to me and the stage camera man as "The Brothers" is because we are.  My Brother and I are twins.  Check out this photo of us Click Here.  From then on Dave and I became, "The Brothers".  But wait, it doesn't stop there.

Later that year, I was asked to work for KGB.  I was to become a rodie/Follow Spot Operator.  I was told by Phil Skyler that it would pay allot of money.  Yeah, Right, but I didn't care, I love music, It was an opportunity of a lifetime for me.  So I took the job and loved it.  My Twin had pursued other interests and decided he no longer wanted to be referred to as one of The Brothers, so I became, "The Brother"

I worked a couple years for KGB up until Phil got an offer to play keyboards for Samantha Fox.  At that point, KGB was no more.  Phil returned from his tour with Samantha Fox only to start a new band, SKYLER.  (bit of an ego if you ask me).  Fortunately, Skyler consisted of Joe, and Chris of KGB, and Phil became the Front Man, He hired a great keyboard player named Jeff, and a new guitar player, John Lavazzo.  The band became as popular as KGB,  They had the same following as they did the same music.  I was hired this time as the lighting director for Skyler,  I put on one hell of a show.  Everyone who met me got to know me as "Brother"  It was kind of tough trying to date girls who came out to the show because of the name, but I managed.  A little time passed and the sound man had decided to up and quit, I walked right into the sound man position for Skyler, and many people were pleased with my abilities,  I was, a Sound man, Lighting Director, Drum Tech, Stage Manger, Pyro-Technition, I did allot of work for this band,  I love music and was just dedicated to it.  I even drove the band truck to the gigs.

More time passed and Skyler had their falling out, as so did many bands of the time period and Skyler was no more.  I worked for a couple other bands, one was 8084 pronounce Eight-Oh-Eight-Four.  They did the same style of music as KGB and Skyler, but were based out of Vermont, (Long Haul for little money)  I then decided to follow my fathers footsteps and drive Tractor-Trailer in October of 1992.  I went with him on a tour called Oh! Calcutta!  I got to know the stage manager and ended up on the crew,  Everyone got to know me as "The Brother" Which incidentally is my CB handle.  I drove on and off for 7 years,  Touring with Musicals was my favorite.  I toured with Oh! Calcutta!, Dream Girls, and My Fair Lady.

In 1994, I got married and in 1997 we moved to Rome.  I now am employed as a computer Technician for a major NY insurance company.  I have been a DJ as well on and off since 1989.  I was a club DJ at Obsessions (Formally The Connection) in Gloversville.  I also have DJ'd many weddings, graduations, and private parties, and well as some other night club bookings.

A couple years after I moved to Rome, I started working for a local Band, Airbourne.  The lead singer was coincidently my boss at one of my computer jobs.  This leads me to How I hooked up with Tunes By RT.   The guitar player for Airbourne introduced me to RT because RT was having computer problems.  We got talking about what he did and because I had DJ'd in the past, RT asked me if I would help him at some of his events.  I agreed.  He introduced me to his "Livation" form of entertainment.  I started to get more heavily involved with his shows.  He had two DJ systems so we ended up splitting up and doing separate gigs for a while.  We then got together again and realized that we were much better entertainers together than we were apart.  We have been a team now for about 2 years.  We have fun doing what we do and our customers seem to enjoy what we have to offer.  We are a professional DJ team who's goal is to put on a fantastic Show for you.  Thus the name Pro Show.
